As we continue our journey through this wonder-filled hymn take an assessment of the level of wonder and amazement which characterizes your relationship with Jesus. We all have room to grow in response to His love for us. Let’s tune our hearts.

Those Sins Aren’t Mine

Jesus walked a very lonely and painful path carrying that cross. It was a path we could never have walked. It would have been too much for us. Yet He willing walked it for the Father’s glory and for our good.

We receive something from this transaction, peace eternal. What do we give in response? Jesus died so we could live, but not however we wish. The lives we live in response to His death should point to that sacrifice.

He took my sins and my sorrows

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24 ESV

This is probably the greatest expression of His love for us. He died for sin so we might die to sin. “Might” because we have to choose every day to live to righteousness. There is no greater response to His love than to walk daily in the healing His wounds purchased. Are you?

This is an interesting way to put it. He took my sins and my sorrows. I did not have to plead with Him or make any kind of bargain. Before I could even ask He took them. He did not even wait for me to realize my unenviable position. He took the initiative. Thank Him.

 

RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider what Jesus accomplished. He carried the weight of the cross so we would not have to carry the weight of our sin.  Make this your simple prayer “Jesus, thank You for taking my sins and sorrows.” 

They Belong to Jesus

He did not only take my sins and toss them away, He made them His very own. He took the full weight of them, and then satisfied His Father’s wrath by offering His perfect life. In doing this He redeemed us from the curse of the law.

He made them His very own

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— Galatians 3:13 ESV

When He bore our sins He became a curse for us. He who was without sin became sin for us by making our sins and their resultant sorrows His very own. He blessed us when He allowed Himself to be hanged on the cross, a tree, and became cursed. What marvelous love!

My sins and sorrows are no longer mine. They have become His possession. That is a remarkable exchange because I could never have dealt with them on my own. Knowing that, Jesus took them from me. He did not have to, but He willingly obeyed the Father. Bless Him.

RESONATE
Take a few moments and think your sins becoming the possession of Jesus. Who would want to own that mess? Jesus. He knew that was the only way to redeem you from them. Pray this simple prayer, “Jesus, I bless You for making my sin Your own.“  

Jesus, thank You for taking my sin and making them your own. I am responsible for them no longer. What a wonderful expression of Your love. In Jesus’ name.

I am grateful Jesus bore the burden of my sin to Calvary, but not only mine, the sin of every person across all time. The weight of this is simply incomprehensible. Staggering under the weight of the cross I can grasp, but not the sins of the world. Marvel at this feat.

Jesus, fill me with wonder as I look to Calvary.

Alone. After enjoying a perfect fellowship with the Father forever, something changed. When Jesus took our sin His intimate communion with the Father was fractured, until He satisfied God’s wrath. He suffered alone and died alone. He did it to show His love for us. Hallelujah!

Jesus, I praise You for Your wonderful expression of love.

Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has surfaced in your heart, or just listen to what He is saying to you, then we will sing once more.

How marvelous how wonderful
