As we continue our journey through this hymn ask yourself if you can make the commitment of the refrain. “Faith of our father, holy faith, we will be true to Thee ’til death.” That is quite a commitment! Let’s think about this.
Truth
What is truth?
How one answers that question determines a lot, practically everything that matters. How one lives and dies. What and who one values. What one believes. All these are dependent on how one answers that question.
That is the question Pilate asked when Jesus told him He had come to bear witness to the truth. It seems more like a ridicule than a real question, after all, Pilate did not wait for the answer. Sad since He was talking to the One who declared Himself to be the Way, the Truth and the Life.
Jesus came from God to bear witness to the truth. He was the truth. He instructed us in a new way of living.
And through the truth that comes from God
…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 ESV
That different way of living is found in the teaching of Jesus. He entrusted them to faithful people, who repeated that activity, as has every generation since. The most revolutionary truth is the fact that Jesus is with us. His presence makes the difference in every situation.
It is the truth that comes from God that reveals the condition of our souls and informs us how to address that malady. We must live out that truth with grace everyday. How will you allow that truth to be seen in your life today? This week? Ask the Spirit for His help displaying it.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider how you are living out the truth of God. It may look different in each of our lives as each of us express it uniquely, but it will always be consistent with what Jesus has commanded us. Pray this simple prayer, “Spirit, help me display the truth of God.”
Truly Free
The truth sets people truly free. Makes sense, right? How have you experienced that recently?
As we live out the truth of our freedom before the world, it has a liberating effect on not only us but on everyone who believes. That effect is that we are saved from our sin which separates us from God. We are able to live in the presence of God every day and that changes us.
We are not simply waiting to live with God in heaven. We live in Him now. We walk in the truth of Who He is and the way that is changing us.
Mankind shall then be truly free
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16 ESV
Truly free? Free from what? Free from the wrath of God. Saved. When we believe and determine to observe all that Jesus taught, we do so because we are resolved to live our lives in response to His redeeming work in us. Are you truly free? Put your trust completely in Jesus.
Freedom comes from hearing and hearing from the Word of God. We live out the truth of God before others as some did before us, and that truth sets them free. You are not responsible to live out your faith for the whole world to see God’s truth, just your little part of it. No pressure.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and think about how remarkable it is to be truly free. That freedom can have a profound impact on the people around you. Ask the Lord to help you live in the truth every day. “Lord, may people find freedom through the truth they see in me.”
Lord, thank You for being the Truth and coming from God to set us free. Help us walk in that freedom every day. May it change the world around us for Your glory. In Jesus name. Amen.

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let’s think about this.
Faith of our fathers we will strive
And [Jesus] said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15 ESV
Jesus is speaking to those first disciples, who would entrust their faith to all who would come after them. He instructed them as to what they were to strive to do, and the same labor falls to us. So what are you striving to do? Are you pouring your energies into this or something else?
To win all nations unto Thee
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:18-20 ESV
Winning is making disciples, not converts. We are not trying to convince anyone to believe something intellectually, but to embrace something entirely. That something is a completely different way of living, for our neighbors and the nations. What a task we have been given!
Mankind shall then be truly free

Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has come to your mind, or listen to what He is saying to you, then I will read our text once more, with the refrain.
Faith of our fathers we will strive
To win all nations unto Thee
And through the truth that comes from God
Mankind shall then be truly free
Take the mindfulness of God’s presence cultivated in these last few minutes into the next ones and beyond. Until next time, Be Resonant.
