Maybe All You Need is a Guide
Well, if the problems and struggles I have described reverberate with you then know one thing for certain, I can empathize with you. Far too often my spiritual life has been plagued by the very ills we have considered. I have spent many a day feeling dry when I knew there was refreshment close at hand. I have spent many a night sensing darkness so thick I could almost touch it, yet believing light was just around the corner.

I know the feeling of longing for more of God.
That knowing is like an aching deep in the soul that far surpasses any hunger pangs. It is like that suspended chord that you are waiting to resolve. You know their is relief, and it is so palpable that you can already taste it, hear it, even before it arrives. I am on this toilsome, wonderful journey with you.
It is toilsome, for there are times when it is hard work, convincing the soul that God is not as far away as He seems. It is wonderful, for the moments when that confidence is surprisingly and unexpectedly rewarded. Oh, how wonderful those moments are, when the toil seems so worthwhile!
Tuning
Have you ever heard a piano being tuned? It reminds me of the tension between toil and wonder. Many notes in a piano are created by the striking of three strings. When one is out of tune the tension is stark. The toil of correcting those slightly shifted strings by deftly moving those pins with a tuning hammer is rewarded when that final string comes into tune. The wonder of that moment when strings that were literally creating competing sonic waves come into tune is, well, wonderful.
The same thing happens in your soul. Part of you is out of tune with other parts. Call it heart, mind or strength, out of sync with the Spirit within you. When those things come back into line, YES!
