As we continue our journey through this beloved hymn come with fresh ears. Sometimes a song can be so familiar some of the meaning can get lost. Try to reclaim a bit of this one as we look deeply at these words. Let’s think about this.
Promise
What exactly is God’s Promise? In one sense it is His Word. It contains His promises and is in fact His Promise.
But Christ is also the Incarnate Word, so in anther sense it is Jesus. Jesus is both the Promise and the Promise fulfilled. He accomplishes everything we need to find peace with God, and is Himself that Peace.
Do you believe it? Do you accept as true all that God has assured us will happen? If someone took at assessment of the way you live would there be enough evidence to convict you of believing? Is it obvious that you believe God’s Promise?
Because Thy Promise I believe
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, John 1:12 ESV
Here are the conditions of our surrender. We must receive Him and believe in His name with all the promises it holds which includes becoming children of God. We were separated from Him by our sin with no way back until Jesus made the way for us to come. Thank You Lord.
Though it is no small thing and many fail to do it, the only thing we must do is believe. Believe His promise. Believe that He has already accomplished everything needed to grant us access. Believe we can come. And demonstrate that by simply coming. Will you come today?
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and assess the evidence of your belief. If you truly believe you will come to Jesus, and then keep coming to Him day after day after day…Pray this simple prayer, “Spirit, help me to believe and come.”
I Come
But will you really?
His Promises are so accessible to us. Probably more so than at any other time in human history. You can carry multiple Bibles in your pocket, but when was the last time you came to it? When was the last time you read it?
Not as a part of a class. Not during the sermon. Not while trying to find some verse you could not quite remember.
Just read it.
Reading His Word is a way of coming to God. That approach informs your coming. It also helps you see Him clearly.
O Lamb of God I come I come
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!…” John 1:29 ESV
John the Baptist saw his cousin drawing near and exclaimed the wonder of God’s grace. Jesus became the Lamb of God to pay for our sins, and the sins of the whole world. Not everyone sees this and not even all of those who see come. Come to Him again today.
The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. John saw Him and exclaimed this truth. Have you ever done that? It is on the basis of this belief we can come at all so we should be quick to declare it. Believe it in your heart and confess it with your lips today.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider how you have declared the Lamb of God. John said “Behold” and we can issue that same invitation today. Pray simply, “Lord, help me to declare Your saving work.“
Lord, thank You revealing Yourself to me through the Person of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I believe He is Who He said He is, and will do what He said He will do. Thank You for taking away my sins. In Jesus name. Amen.

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let’s think about this.
Just as I am Thou wilt receive
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 ESV
We are received based solely on the merits of Jesus Christ given for our salvation. We are drawn to the Father, given eternal life and spared from never-ending anguish if we believe in Him. Even still few choose to come. Thank God for receiving you just as you are.
Wilt welcome pardon cleanse relieve
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Isaiah 55:7 ESV
Wicked and unrighteous. Those are the words that describe us before we return to the Lord. His compassion is revealed in the sacrifice of His Son and flows to us through the quickening of our conscience by the Holy Spirit. We are abundantly pardoned. Give praise to God!
