We continue our journey through this classic hymn sung across oceans and denominations for 150 years. Our prayer is the same as all the saints who have sung it before, “Revive us again”. Let’s tune our hearts.
Living Hallelujahs
Jesus is worthy of every hallelujah I can ever bring, even if all I ever do for the rest of eternity is bring them in various shapes and forms. Ultimately, that is what I am called to do, bring hallelujahs, praise in every form, to the One who is worthy. It begs the question, “Do I?”
I am reminded of the words of another song. (Build My Life, Housefires)
Worthy of all the songs we could ever sing.
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring.
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe.
We live for You.
Yes.
Hallelujah!
Amen!
Really?
It is words like this over the years that have really challenged me as a worshipper and worship leader. Can I make that statement with confidence and conviction? Yes, not necessarily because it is my daily experience, but because it is my eternal aspiration, lived out every day both now and forever.
There is coming a day when face-to-face I will be inspired to give Jesus all glory and praise. Even so, I must aspire to this kind of living today. Such is the prayer of the hymn writer.
All glory and praise
Saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” Revelation 5:12 ESV
What a glorious day that will be when we join our voices with the myriads and thousands around the throne singing our “Hallelujah” to the One Who is worthy of them all. But we do not have to wait. We must not wait! He is worthy today, and we must continue to align our living to this singular purpose until all our activities are marked by it.
Jesus alone is worthy of all glory and praise, both eternally and daily. He has no rival and no equal, and yet sometimes we act as though He has some close competitors. Are you living in such a way that it is obvious Jesus is the singular object of all your affections, or are you divided?
Ask the Spirit to show you. Spirit, show me if my affections are divided. Give praise to Jesus today in anticipation of that great day!
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal its affections. As potential competitors come to light, deal with each of them by confessing the reality of them, and asking the Spirit to help you esteem Christ far above each of them. Then commit to living out your hallelujahs today in a way that reveals how worthy Jesus truly is, and give praise to Jesus in anticipation of joining the worship around His throne.
Remembering and Celebrating
As you prepare to give Jesus glory with your living today, let’s consider why. We will spend the balance of our reflection on this stanza on those reasons. We start with the fact that He was slain and why.
To the Lamb that was slain,
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29 ESV
As John the Baptist saw his cousin approach, he saw Him for Who He truly was and is, and glorified Him rightly. We too often fail to do the same. Jesus shows up unannounced in our lives, and we let those moments pass. Are you on alert to identify those times and then be quick to herald His presence?
We must work at seeing Him in simple things. Things like the bread and the cup. Whether it is the Lord’s Table or even His provision in an ordinary meal, acknowledge Him. When truths you have read in His word take shape in your life, give Him praise. When you are afforded an opportunity to die to yourself and live for His glory, follow Him obediently.
The One who is worthy of all glory is the Lamb who was slain. The Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. The Lamb of God. Do you love Him? He was slain for the glory of God, but also for your good. Thank Him and tell Him again that you love Him by choosing to live your life remembering and celebrating.
RESONATE!
Ask Jesus to give you eyes to seem Him throughout your day. John was serving when he looked up and saw Jesus. How will Jesus come to you today? When He does, be ready to herald His presence and give Him the glory that He deserves, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Jesus, help me to have eyes to see You today. When I do, give me the ability to give You glory. You are worthy, and I want to live my life to praise You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

Welcome to Tuesday Tunings at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let’s tune our hearts.
All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who hath borne all our sins,
And hath cleansed every stain.
Refrain:
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.
Jesus alone is worthy of all glory and praise. He has no rival and no equal, and yet sometimes we act as though He has some close competitors. Are you living in such a way that it is obvious Jesus is the object of your affections, or are you divided? Ask the Spirit to show you.
Spirit, show me if my affections are divided.
The One who is worthy of all glory is the Lamb who was slain. The Lamb who takes away the sins of the world. The Lamb of God. Do you love Him? He was slain for the glory of God, but also for your good. Thank Him and tell Him again that you love Him.
Jesus, thank You for being slain. I love You.
We love Him because He has borne the penalty of our sins and made a way for us to come to the Father. Do you believe this? Do you live like you are free from them? You need not carry them or their guilt anymore. Bless the name of Jesus for bearing your sins.
Jesus, I bless You for bearing all my sins.
One songwriter said, “Oh wash me in His cleansing blood.” It is a strange thought being washed in blood until we are white as snow, but it is powerful imagery. Your sin-stained garments cleansed by His blood. Thank the Father for that miracle.
God, thank You for washing my stains in the blood of Jesus.
Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has surfaced in your heart, or just listen to what He is saying to you, then we will sing once more.
Sing
Take the awareness of God’s presence cultivated in these last few minutes into the next ones and beyond. Until next time, Be Resonant.
