O the deep deep love of Jesus
Love of every love the best
‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing
‘Tis a haven sweet of rest
O the deep deep love of Jesus
‘Tis a heaven of heavens to me
And it lifts me up to glory
For it lifts me up to Thee

As we continue our journey through this classic hymn give yourself some time to ponder this text and the riches it communicates of the love of Jesus. Soak it up and let it change your perspective. Let’s think about this.
Heaven of Heavens
Some think of “a” heaven as a place where your favorite things or experiences all come together. Still others a feeling of delight. But what the writer is describing here is so much more than that.
Heaven. A place of endless bliss, rest and peace. The dwelling place of God.
What about a heaven of heavens? THE place of endless bliss, rest and peace found in the very presence of God. That is what the deep deep love of Jesus is, and simultaneously that to which it grants us access.
O the deep deep love of Jesus
‘Tis a heaven of heavens to me
Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. Jude 1:21 ESV
We are instructed to keep ourselves in the love of God. Good counsel considering there is no place like it as we wait on the mercy of our Lord Jesus. That mercy leads us to eternal life, a heaven of heavens. We keep ourselves by practicing it and surrendering to it every day.
Not just heaven, but a heaven of heavens. The highest heaven, the abode or seat of God. Where His throne may be found. In short, the very presence of God. That is what the deep, deep love of Jesus is, the highest of heavens. It is both that place and what allows us access to it.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider what your concept of heaven is. We simply do not sped enough time thinking about the place where we will spend more time than we can fathom. Pray this simple prayer, “Jesus, thank You for giving access to Your presence.”
Lifted Up By Going Deep
How do we get to that place? That heaven of heavens? We go up by going deep into the love of Jesus.
Have you ever thought about the fact that to go to the highest heights we go down? The Scripture teaches that God will exalt us if we humble ourselves before Him (Luke 14:11), but this is another way of thinking about that. We go deep down into His love, and that love takes us higher than we could have ever imagined.
And it lifts me up to glory
For it lifts me up to Thee
…God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us… made us alive together with Christ…and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus Ephesians 2:4, 5b, 6 ESV
He made us alive together with Christ, and raised us up. Past tense. In God’s mind this is already done, even though we have to wait for time to catch up with eternity. That is the love of God. It has already accomplished things we are still waiting to experience. Hallelujah!
Glory is being in His presence. His love lifts us to that place and becomes the door through which we can enter into it. The love of Jesus lifts us up to His presence, it lifts us up to glory. Deep, deep love that lifts us up. Seems counterintuitive but it is anything but that.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and think about how you can humble yourself, taking a path deep into the love of Jesus. How do we do that? Walking in His ways and practicing all He has taught us. Pray for ability to do that, “Jesus, thank You for deep love which lifts up.”
Jesus, Your love changes everything. As I surrender to it, I find a bliss, rest and peace nothing else offers, but I also find a the path that takes me deeper and higher. Do that work in me today. In Jesus name. Amen.

Welcome to Thursday Thoughts at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let’s think about this.
O the deep deep love of Jesus
Love of every love the best
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 ESV
Jesus is speaking again to His disciples. Just before these words He told them to love each other as He had loved them. He had not proven the full extent of His love at this point but knew that example was coming. What a different world this would be if we loved like Jesus!
‘Tis an ocean vast of blessing
‘Tis a haven sweet of rest
How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 36:7 ESV
The comfort of the wing comes not so much from the softness of the feathers, but the fierceness of the one protecting everything beneath them. What a comfort to know that God not only blesses us with His vast love, but creates under it a haven of rest sweeter than any other.
