And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others take your part
O praise Him alleluia
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care
O praise Him alleluia

As we continue our journey through this ancient hymn ask the Holy Spirit to help you issue this call to worship. Be sure to find your place in the praise. Let’s tune our hearts.
A Tender Heart
Which come first, the tenderness or the forgiveness? Certainly, learning to forgive requires some tenderness, but some tenderness also makes forgiving easier. There is obviously an interplay with these two realities.
So where are you on these two continuums? Do you need a little more tenderness, try forgiving someone today. Do you need to be a little more forgiving, practice a little tenderness toward others. They really do play off each other.
And all ye men of tender heart
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 ESV
Now we turn our attention to the pinnacle of creation, created in God’s image, mankind. Though being made in God’s image predisposes us to giving him glory, we do so best when we act in a way that is reflective of his nature. Showing kindness to each other is one such expression.
How is your heart becoming more tender? Are you allowing the challenges and difficulties which God permits to come into your daily living to have a tenderizing effect on you or is your heart becoming more hard instead? You often do not get to choose your circumstances, but you can always choose your response.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider the tenderness of your heart. Are you inclined to offer forgiveness readily? If not, can you identify why that is? Make this your simple prayer “Holy Spirit, tenderize my hard heart.”
Is a Forgiving Heart
While tenderness is a posture, forgiveness is an act. Certainly, you can keep the idea of forgiveness inside, but true forgiveness is more than a posture. It is an action, or series of actions engaged in to usher a different reality, an outward expression on an inward transaction.
Tenderness will indeed predispose you to forgive. That is true whether the one needing the forgiveness is you or someone else. Forgiveness changes the way you look at yourself, and the way you look at others. Are you willing to take the initiative and extend forgiveness to others whether they have asked or even realize they need it? After all, that is exactly what Jesus already did for you.
Forgiving others take your part
Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:13 ESV
Still, an even better reflection of the glory of God is when we offer forgiveness. This act mirrors the work of Christ on the cross. It allows us to extend to others what we have ourselves first received from God. Do you want to give praise to God? Forgive others, particularly those you have a complaint against.
Is there anyone you need to forgive? Maybe you’ve been carrying some thing around for a long time. Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and hoping they die. Choose to stop drinking the poison of unforgiveness and offer forgiveness if only in your heart to those who may not even realize they need it.
RESONATE
Take a few moments and think about forgiveness. Having been a recipient of it, will you now extend it to someone who needs it? Pray this simple prayer, “Jesus, help me to freely offer forgiveness.“
Jesus, thank You for offering me forgiveness. Give me a tender heart which quick acknowledges that truth and responds by offering forgiveness. In Jesus’ name.

Welcome to Tuesday Tunings at Resonant 7, where we reflect on the reality of God and resolve to let it resound in our lives, repeatedly. Let’s tune our hearts.
And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others take your part
O praise Him alleluia
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care
O praise Him alleluia
How is your heart becoming more tender? Are you allowing the challenges and difficulties which God permits to come into your daily living to have a tenderizing effect on you or is your heart becoming more hard instead? You often do not get to choose your circumstances, but you can always choose your response.
Holy Spirit, tenderize my hard heart.
Is there anyone you need to forgive? Maybe you’ve been carrying some thing around for a long time. Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and hoping they die. Choose to stop drinking the poison of unforgiveness all for it even if only in your heart to those who may not even realize they need it.
Jesus, help me to freely offer forgiveness.
Have you born pain and sorrow of any kind for a long time? It may be emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical. Have you deliberately chosen to cast that burden on the Lord? Maybe He has had you carry it for a reason. Maybe it is time to ask Him to bear it.
Father, I cast my pain and sorrow on You.
You may find that when you give those things to Him, He cares for you like you never understood before. Maybe He will remove the weight of them. Maybe He will show His care by sustaining you through them. Either way, you will know His care for you like never before.
Jesus, I praise You for caring for me.
Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has surfaced in your heart, or just listen to what He is saying to you, then we will sing once more.
And all ye men of tender heart
Forgiving others take your part
O praise Him alleluia
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on Him cast your care
O praise Him alleluia
Take the awareness of God’s presence cultivated in these last few minutes into the next ones and beyond. Until next time, Be Resonant.
