As we continue our journey through this hymn of praise which serves as an encouragement and call to worship prepare to respond and give Him glory. Let’s tune our hearts.
Great Things
When you think of great things you have learned or great things you have seen done what comes to mind? Maybe someone taught you a skill that few people possess. Maybe you have personally witnessed some incredible feat or heroism or athleticism. Maybe the greatness is very personal or is the accomplishment of someone close to you.
As great as any of those things may be there is something else greater still. The redemption of our souls. Is there anything greater?
Great things He has taught us Great things He has done
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3 ESV
He has made known to us His mercy which was demonstrated most greatly through the redemption He has made available to us through the sacrifice of His Son. This combination of things He has done and things He has taught us is unparalleled. Bless His holy name!
From your perspective, what is the greatest thing that God has done in your life? Many will answer redemption and there really is no argument with that. But when you think of the great things God has done recently what comes to mind? Maybe several things do. Give Him praise.
RESONATE!
Take a few moments and consider the great things God has done, the greatest of which is arguably your redemption. Will you praise God for that today? What else will you praise Him for? Make this your simple prayer “God, I give You praise for _________.”
Great Rejoicing
This is the only appropriate response to the great things that God has taught us and done. Great rejoicing! But what is the real basis of all this greatness? Jesus Christ and the inspiration and motivation He provides for that rejoicing of course.
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
And they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. Psalm 138:5 ESV
Our rejoicing is great indeed, and all because of Jesus. He gives us first the reason to rejoice and then provides the only way we could have known it, the access through His finished work. We will sing of His ways eternally, but we should get started today. No time like the present.
If it were not for Jesus we would have no interest in rejoicing in the great things God has done. If it were not for Jesus, neither would we have any capacity to do so. It is through Jesus we want to and can rejoice greatly. But do you? Will you commit to rejoice greatly today?
RESONATE
Take a few moments and consider the scope and import of your rejoicing. Is it fair to characterize it as great? If so, keep it up! If not, why not? Pray a simple prayer like this one, “Jesus, help me rejoice greatly through You today.”
Jesus, thank You for giving me a reason to rejoice and then the capacity to do so. If it were not for the revelation of what You have done and the faith to believe I would still not be prompted to praise. I rejoice that I am. In Jesus’ name.

Great things He has taught us Great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder our transport when Jesus we see
From your perspective, what is the greatest thing that God has done in your life? Many will answer redemption and there really is no argument with that. But when you think of the great things God has done recently what comes to mind? Maybe several things do. Give Him praise.
God, I give You praise for _________.
If it were not for Jesus we would have no interest in rejoicing in the great things God has done. If it were not for Jesus, neither would we have any capacity to do so. It is through Jesus we want to and can rejoice greatly. But do you? Will you commit to rejoice greatly today?
Jesus, help me rejoice greatly through You today.
Even still there is coming a day that will cause our greatest rejoicing to pale in comparison. In that day our rejoicing will be purer and higher and greater. Are you longing for that day? Do you ache to experience even more exuberant praise or are you satisfied with today?
Spirit, cause me to long for greater rejoicing.
What makes the difference between our rejoicing now and that day? The presence of Jesus. He is with us now but when we finally see Him our wonder and our transport, to be overwhelmed with strong emotion, especially joy, will be greater than imaginable.
Jesus, I long to be overwhelmed with the joy of seeing You.
Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has surfaced in your heart, or just listen to what He is saying to you, then we will sing once more.
Praise the Lord praise the Lord Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord praise the Lord Let the people rejoice
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son
And give Him the glory great things He has done
Take the awareness of God’s presence cultivated in these last few minutes into the next ones and beyond. Until next time, Be Resonant.
