As we continue our journey through this carol in which we call the world to sing with joy, how will you find your place in the song? Let’s tune our hearts.
Joy, the Savior, Reigns
The reign of our Savior has commenced and we see the evidence of it as the Spirit gives us sight. This brings us joy even as we long for the day when Jesus will use his authority to cause the Father’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. What a day that will be!
Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
…the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 ESV
Joy has come to the earth, because the Savior has arrived. But not only has he arrived, He has established His rule and authority over all. That is good news, because it gives Him the authority to redeem us, making all our wrong things right. That’s cause for joy!
RESONATE!
Take a few moments think about the joy the comes when you know Jesus reigns. It changes your perspective on everything. Make this your simple prayer “Savior, reign in me and bring joy.”
Making Your Songs Work for Jesus
Just about everybody has some songs they like to sing. For most of us, they are songs we learned when we were teenagers, coming-of-age. Among the songs we like to sing, there should be some in praise of the king. Is that true for you?
When I was in high school I could rip into a number of different songs on the radio, but I was also beginning to learn some jazz. It was the beginning of a development of a fairly eclectic mix of styles which help me become somewhat of a mockingbird, able to mimic different genres. In college I began to add opera to the mix, then finally a variety of Christian sub-genres. Still, when some of the songs from my later junior high and early high school days come along something just moves me to belt them out at the top of my lungs.
Of course, I want to sing best the songs that give voice to my praise to my King. To bless His name. To tell of His salvation as a daily practice. Why? Because I want my songs to work toward the singular purpose of giving Him glory.
Let men their songs employ
Sing to the Lord, bless his name;
tell of his salvation from day to day. Psalm 96:2 ESV
We use songs to tell of His redeeming work. Scripture commands it, and it is a powerful way to engage the soul as well as the mind with the wonderful truths of God. Once you have embraced this reality, it honestly becomes difficult not to make it known through song.
RESONATE
Take a few moments and consider the songs you most love to sing. Are you working to make your songs bring glory to God? Once we know HIs salvation we must begin to yield our efforts in song to the praise of our King. Ask Him for His help by praying a simple prayer like this one, “Jesus, help me sing songs for You.“
Jesus, thank You for reigning over the earth. I want to use my songs to bring You praise. Please help me. In Jesus’ name.

Jesus, help me sing songs for You.
What a beautiful picture of creation offering praise to the Savior! The most common of all topographies are mentioned in this nearly comprehensive list. Yet, did you notice they are responding or rather adding their praise to ours?
Spirit, help creation praise.
We sound out our joy and the rest of creation echoes. If that is, indeed, the case, we better make certain we are leading the way with our joyful praise. They cannot repeat our joy if we are not declaring it in the first place. Are you?
Lord, help me declare my joy.
Take a few moments to talk to Jesus about what has surfaced in your heart, or just listen to what He is saying to you, then we will sing once more.
